Donald Doughty, 78, dies
Donald E. Doughty, 78, of Frankfort, Indiana, passed away at 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at Parkwood Health Care Center in Lebanon, Indiana. Mr. Doughty was a lifelong Clinton County resident, where he attended school and grew up in Colfax. Born November 16, 1928 to Paul and Pearl Mae Boyer Doughty, he married Joan B. Best on July 15, 1956, in Sheridan, Indiana. She survives. He worked 27 years as a mechanic for the Indiana Department of Transportation, retiring in 1994.
Mr. Doughty was a member of the Moose Lodge and U.S. Trotting Association. He enjoyed fair racing mostly and learned the sport from a fellow horseman, Ray Sanders. Mr. Doughty's involvement in harness racing began in the early 1960s, as a hobby. He owned several horses over the years. His one special horse was Ghost Painter p,2:01, who in 1989 won 21 of 24 races. The wins were all in overnights, with most of them contested in 2 heats.
Throughout his life, Mr. Doughty enjoyed the sport of harness racing greatly. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Pamela Royer, and wife, Joan Doughty, both of Frankfort.
