Robert Daniel "Danny" Knox, 45, dies

Funeral services for Dan Knox, long one of Illinois top drivers, were held on Tuesday, June 15, in Melrose Park, Illinois.  Knox, a winner of 2,283 races and who drove the winners of $15.3 million in purses, died unexpectedly, on Thursday, June 10, 2004.  Knox, 45, is survived by his wife, Denise (formerly Ippolito) and two children, Deanna and Rob.  His father, Bob Knox, is also a former driver-trainer, who is now the starter at Balmoral Park, and by his brother, Phillip (Tammy), and sister, Vickie (Mrs. Jeremy) Owen.  He was preceded in death by his mother, the late Priscilla (formerly Burkhart) Knox.  The Knox Children Education Trust Fund has been established, and memorial contributions may be sent to Balmoral Park, 26435 S.
