Lois (Barnes) McGinnis, 91, dies
Lois (Barnes) McGinnis, 91, died Thursday, November 18, 2004, at Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, Indiana. She was born April 3, 1913, in Clark Township. Her parents were Hattie (Jones) and William Delbert Barnes, Sr. She married Harold Hall McGinnis on June 24, 1931, in Whiteland, Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1996. Survivors include two neices, Karen S. Hardin of Franklin, Indiana and Sandra Kay Kickinson of Kalamazoo, Michigan; four nephews, William T. "Billy" Barnes of Oceanside, California, and Roger D. McGinnis, Rex D. McGinnis, and John Robert Ingle, all of Franklin, Indiana; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Mildred Barnes; and a brother, William Delbert Barnes, Jr.
She was a 1931 graduate of Whiteland High School. She was a self-employed hair-dresser. She and her husband owned and operated McGinnis Restaurant in Franklin for 30 years and HAR-LO-MC Stables, of Franklin. Their stable was known throughout the Midwest for breeding, training, and racing Standardbred horses. They owned and raced Stephan Smith, a world-champion pacer in the 1960s.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, The United States Trotting Association, and Franklin Chapter 439 Order of the Eastern Star, where she also served as district deputy. She also enjoyed crafts.
