Lloyd H. Rhule, 89, dies
(January 28, 1918-June 3, 2007)
Lloyd H. Rhule, 89, of Pendleton, Indiana, died June 3, 2007, at
Saint John’s Medical Center in Anderson. He was born January 28, 1918, in
Furnace, Kentucky. Mr. Rhule moved to the Madison County area in 1927, where he
attended Anderson High School before going on to Great Commission Bible College.
Serving in the US Navy from March 1944 to December 1946, he was a machinist
mate. Mr. Rhule retired from Guide Division of General Motors in 1974, after 38
½ years. He also owned Pendleton Peatmoss Company and worked as a custodian at
South Elementary School, Pendleton.
He attended the Pendleton Baptist Church. His interests included gardening, wood
working, and fishing on the family farm. Rhule was known for his willingness to
help people. He especially loved spending quality time with his family and
friends.
Rhule is survived by his two sons, V. Dale Rhule (wife Camille), Knoxville, TN,
and Dwayne L. Rhule (wife Imy), Pendleton, IN; a brother Johnny Bill Rhule,
Winter Haven, FL; five grandchildren, Steve Rhule (wife Vicky), Tim Rhule, Chris
Rhule (wife Carolyn), Phil Rhule (wife Kathie), and Ann Stephenson (husband
Mike); fourteen great-grandchildren, Nick Rhule, Haley Rhule, Britney Hawkins,
Alex Rhule, Halie Rhule, Irene Everett, Rene Kantu, Emily Rhule, Leslie Rhule,
Daniel Stephenson, Cassie Stephenson, Thea Newnum, Cody Stephenson, and Sarah
Newnum, and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves a special friend, Ann
Esary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Monty S. Rule and Ida M. Rule; a
brother, Roy Rule; two sisters, May Way and Fay Rule. Mr. Rhule donated his body
to Anatomical Education Program of the Indiana University School of Medicine.
The family wishes to thank his many caregivers; Gary Wright, MD, Ronald L. Young
II, MD, Stephen P. Elliott, MD, Tara Wolf, nurse, Harter House and Vermillion
Place staff, and Kathryn Bray.
Appointed to the Indiana Standardbred Advisory Board in May 2007, Rhule's son,
Dwayne, was instrumental in the passage of the Indiana slots bill. He and his
wife, Imy, own and operate Lick Creek Stable in Pendleton, Indiana. Branded with
the Lick Creek name, their horses have included Lick Creek Adelaide, Lick Creek
Hi Heels, and Lick Creek Rosa. They also bred and own Lick Creek Louie, who is
currently competing at Hoosier Park.
