Harold Ruddick, Sr., 84, dies

Note: This is NOT Harold "Dick" Ruddick, Jr.  It is his father.  Please read below.

Harold Richard Ruddick, Sr., 84, Seymour, Indiana, passed away Friday, August 24, 2007, at Lutheran Community Home, Seymour.

Mr. Ruddick was a member of Reddington Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Wamali class.  He was a World War II Veteran, serving in England, France, Belgium, and Germany.  He owned and operated the Golden Acre Greenery and also did various landscaping.  He managed a Knights Inn and Best Western, as well as working for the Indiana State Highway Department for several years.

Mr. Ruddick also trained and raced Trottingbred Ponies.  He took his family to the Indiana State Fair for harness racing each year, which is what led his son, Harold "Dick" Ruddick, Jr. and his family (Beverly & Stacey) into Standardbred racing.

Born in Redding Township, on December 15, 1922, he was a son of Elmer and Elizabeth (Marsh) Ruddick, both of whom preceded him in death.  On January 19, 1944, he married Jessie Ann Banks in Seymour, who preceded him in death in May of 1999.

Survivors include his daughters, Merylee Doyle and Lisa Meadors; sons, Harold Ruddick, Jr. and George Ruddick; sisters, Ruth Sweany and Betty Mosher; a brother, George W. Ruddick; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

Pastors Bill Weaver and Scott Brown conducted funeral services at on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at Voss Chapel, Seymour.  Burial took place at Reddington Cemetery, with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, DAV #47, and the Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
