Margaret "Irish" Wells,

Margaret (Peggy) E. "Irish" Wells, 60, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Saturday, Aug. 14, in King's Daughters Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. She was born May 14, 1944, in Covington, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Willard B. and Mary Frances Neal Saunders. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Laura Saunders; and a stepdaughter, Margaret Faye Marrs.
She was a broker with Brooks Wells Century 21 and vice president of Brooks Wells Enterprise. She was on the board of Ashland Community Technical College and the Jesse Stuart Foundation and was a member of Holy Family Church, where she was a member of Daughters of the King.
Wells was survived by her husband, Brooks Wells, who in 1988 served as the chairman of the board of directors of the U.S. Trotting Association, and served as a member of the board from 1979 until 2003. Wells is a member of the Kentucky Harness Racing Hall of Fame, was Harness Horsemen International's Man of the Year in 1984, was named the Kentucky Horseman of the year in 1992, and is a long time breeder and owner, an executive with the Blooded Horse Sale, and is the owner of a real estate firm in Ashland.
