Tim Wilson, Sr., 60, dies

Timothy D. Wilson, Sr., 60, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 14, 2006 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.  He was a professional trainer and breeder of Standardbred horses.  He was born January 17, 1946 at Terre Haute, IN, the son of Charles Wilson and Doris Ferleman Wilson.

Surviving are his wife, Diana Childress Wilson: two sons, Timothy (Deana) Wilson, Jr. of Crete, IL and Carter Wilson of Martinsville, IL; two daughters, Kimberly (David) Ward of Ft. Wayne, IN and Deone Wilson of Martinsville, IL; eight grandchildren, Teddi Ward, Patrick Ward, Elizabeth Ward, Rachel Ward, Tyler Wilson, Abbey Wilson, Darby McNeil and Grace McNeil and a brother, Dan (Marge) Wilson of Marshall, IL.  His parents and a nephew preceded him in death.

He was a member and on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Harness Horsemen's Association and chairman of the Legislative Committee.  He was also a member of the United States Trotting Association and the Illinois Standardbred Owners and Breeders Association.  He was a member of the Martinsville Fair Board, the Clark-Edgar Rural Water Board of Directors and the Clark County Farm Bureau.  Tim and his wife, Diana, owned and operated Tim Wilson Farm in Martinsville, Illinois.

He was a graduate of Wiley High School at Terre Haute and received his BS and MS from Indiana State University at Terre Haute.  He formerly taught at Gerstmeyer High School in Terre Haute and had also taught at Vincennes University in Vincennes, IN.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, July 19 at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall, IL. Burial was in the Bean Cemetery, rural Martinsville, IL.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Harness Horseman's Association or the New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program.
