Hoosier Park to Require Vaccinations

In consultation with the Indiana Horse Racing Commission, the state veterinarian, and the Indiana Board of Animal Health, Hoosier Park is implementing the following policy regarding equine herpes:

  • Hoosier Park will require proof of EHV (Equine Herpes Virus, also known as Equine Rhinopneumonitis) vaccination for all horses entering the grounds.
  • The vaccination must have been administered within the last six months.
  • No exceptions will be allowed.
  • Proof of vaccination signed by a licensed and accredited veterinarian must be presented at the stable gate and filed with the race office.
  • A licensed veterinarian must sign proof of treatment papers.
  • An increasing number of EHV cases at other racetracks have prompted this proactive measure to prevent such occurrences in Indiana.
  • Any horse testing positive for equine herpes may be required to vacate the Hoosier Park premises immediately.
