November Health Note - Vitamins
Vitamins are organic nutrients needed by horses in small amounts for normal metabolism, growth, and physical well-being. They are categorized into two groups - water soluble and fat soluble. Fat soluble vitamins must be supplied in the diet, whereas research shows water soluble vitamins, like some B-complex, are produced within the cecum and colon by microflora. Bacterial production, however, cannot supply all the required B-vitamins, so they also must be supplemented in or with the ration.
