November Health Note - First Aid Kit

As horse owners, you never know when an accident or illness may occur.  One way to be ready for an emergency is to build a first aid kit.  Many people make two: one for the barn and another for the trailer.  While there are some items to be included in every first aid kit (bandaging material, wound cleansing supplies, and ointment), your veterinarian can assist you in customizing an emergency medical package based on your experience and needs.  For more Horse Health Information, visit the Web site of the American Association of Equine Practitioners at www.MyHorseMatters.com.

November Health Note - Vitamins

Vitamins are organic nutrients needed by horses in small amounts for normal metabolism, growth, and physical well-being.  They are categorized into two groups - water soluble and fat soluble.  Fat soluble vitamins must be supplied in the diet, whereas research shows water soluble vitamins, like some B-complex, are produced within the cecum and colon by microflora.  Bacterial production, however, cannot supply all the required B-vitamins, so they also must be supplemented in or with the ration.  For more Horse Health Information, visit the Web site of the American Association of Equine Practitioners at www.MyHorseMatters.com.  This site contains information pertinent to your horse's health and more.
