October Health Note - Cold Weather Care
Monitoring water intake is as critical during the Winter as it is during the Summer. Since horses prefer to drink water at least 42-45°F, you may need to add warm water to their buckets or troughs or purchase a bucket or trough heater. Ask your veterinarian how to prevent other cold weather problems, such as frostbite, heaves, and weight loss. October Health Note - Digestion
Of the grains commonly fed to horses, oats are the least likely to cause digestive upsets, since they are of high fiber content and easily digested. Corn is the most difficult for horses to digest. Most commercial rations balance all ingredients with vitamins, minerals, and other supplements.
