The first race EVER at Indiana Downs was conducted on December 6, 2002.  The winning horse was Crosswind, in a time of 1:57.4.  Appropriately, this was an Indiana-sired horse, winning an Indiana-sired Late Closer.  The winning driver was Ricky Macomber.  This was also significant, because it was one of the first times Ricky had returned to the sulky after an accident during the closing week at Hoosier Park in August 2002.  The accident had left Ricky with a broken leg, in addition to other injuries.
