Hoosier fillies sweep $62,000 Blossom Final at The Big M
It was an Indiana Sired exacta in the second race at the Meadowlands on Thursday, April 19. The event was a $62,000 final for 3-year-old fillies. Frank Baldachino’s stand-out sophomores, Go On BB (Dontgetinmyway) and Summer In Fiji (Whitefish Falls), both crossed the wire more than 5 lengths in front of the rest of the field.
Starting from posts 5 and 6, the race chart shows neither of the Mickey Burke trainees seeing the rail during the race. The fillies were parked, but following each other, for much of the mile. In the stretch, Go On BB took the lead and battled gamely clear to the wire. In the final few strides, only her stablemate, Summer In Fiji, was close. She finished only a neck back, with both fillies recording identical times of 1:52.2.
The winning effort by Go On BB makes her an Indiana Sired Season Leader on a 7/8 or larger racetrack. Incidentally, the all-time leader in this category is Bluebird Wanda (1:51.1). She was also owned by Baldachino when she set the mark.
The two fillies, Go On BB and Summer In Fiji, are nominated to both the Indiana Sires Stakes and Genesis Series. The legs of these events are currently underway at Hoosier Park. With two series available, the Indiana Sires Stakes will also be contested at Indiana Downs later in the year.
