Valley
Electric Retired
Trainer Mick Grant told Trot Insider earlier on Wednesday (December 27) that
Valley Electric
has hung up her hopples to begin her second career as a broodmare.
The hard knocking daughter of Electric Yankee - Fox Valley Godiva retired with a
career mark of 1:51 taken at Mohawk Racetrack earlier this season.
Throughout her career, the six-year-old racked up 42 lifetime wins and hauled in
purse earnings of $853,854.
"I'm pretty sure that she'll be bred to Western Hanover," claimed Grant, who
noted that the mare left his barn last Wednesday. "She's at Wilbur Eash's
farm in Topeka, Indiana. He's the one that broke her and raced her in the
early stages of her career."
William Huggins of Wolcottville, Indiana, bred and owns Valley Electric, who
Grant described as an extreme pleasure to have around.
"She was perfect around the barn, but she could be a bit bitchy around the
racetrack," quipped Grant.
"She was a mare that worked through some soundness issues throughout her career.
We [Grant and owner Huggins] always said that when she couldn't go at the top
level anymore, that would be it. We didn't want to cheapen her.
