Dever to manage Indiana State Fair harness racing program
The Indiana State Fair has appointed a new manager for its historic harness racing program.
Linda Dever, an assistant to Jeff Henson for the past 12 years, has been promoted to replace Henson who recently decided to step aside from the day to day management of the harness racing office. Dever has worked at the state fair since the 1980s, beginning as the Clerk of the Course, and has also managed the races held at the state fairgrounds during the month of July for the past few years. She now adds the management of the racing program to her duties and is also the official Race Secretary.
“It was wonderful to get someone as competent and deserving as Linda to agree to take over the reins of the program”, Henson said. “She will take the many improvements we have made over the past 12 years and continue to grow the success of the program.”
Although he is relinquishing his official position, Henson will stay involved with the fair as both a consultant and volunteer in the harness racing program and other fair activities. He will also serve as a management liaison in the year round management of the harness horse operations..
“I came to the state fair to manage the harness racing program in 1995, and through the years I have come to realize the tremendous value the fair adds to the State of Indiana,” he said. “It has become such a big part of my life, and I want to be a volunteer in many other aspects of its success.”
