Genesis Finals at Indy Downs

The stakes season at Indiana Downs came to a close Friday, Oct. 13 as two $40,000 Genesis Series finales were offered on the 13-race program. CC Snickers and Go On BB, both victorious in Indiana Sires Stakes one week earlier, claimed victory on a cold and windy evening in Shelbyville.

In the first Genesis Series event, the fifth race on the card, CC Snickers and Rick Farrington mowed down the three-horse Verlin Yoder-trained entry to capture the $40,000 final for freshman trotting fillies. The Harrys Star Ranger two year old won in a lifetime best 1:58.4 while Yoder’s entries, Pretty New, Ideal Queen and Miss Color Chip were second, fourth and fifth. ABC Bay Bee was third for trainer Joe Putnam.

“She’s just gotten so sharp in the last few weeks,” said Farrington, who battled driver Jay Cross and Pretty New in the stretch before drawing clear by three parts of a length. “She digs in awful hard when one gets at her throat latch.”

One week after winning the $52,200 Indiana Sires Stakes final at Indiana Downs, CC Snickers added another big payday. The win was her fifth in 12 career starts for trainer Steve Waller, who co-owns the filly with Lathan Heath and Dorothy Farrington. The time was one-fifth lower than her previous best.

In the $40,000 final for pacing fillies Go On BB romped, establishing a new lifetime mark while dusting the field by 10 lengths at the wire. The Dontgetinmyway lass, owned by Frank Baldachino ran her winning streak to five races with the 1:54.4 victory. Postmark was second and Kentucky Sires Stakes runner-up Forever Showin Off was third.

“I didn’t want to get to the lead early. I wanted to be where I could pull the right line,” noted driver Pat Berry. “I just tapped her with the whip a few times in the stretch.”

Trained by Mickey Burke, the freshman shaved two-fifths of a second off her best mark, equaled a week earlier en route to victory in the $61,800 ISS final for pacing fillies. Go On BB’s bankroll is now $69,700.
